Mari and Mick run an excellent four star, four room bed and breakfast in Clonakilty. It's near the coast and only about 50 minutes drive from Cork city. West Cork has the most stunning scenery and this is particularly true of Glendine B&B. The view is 180 degree panoramic, looking across the valley. The welcome is as warm as you could hope, the rooms are comfortably furnished and the breakfast is outstanding. This has got to be one of the best value bed and breakfasts I've stayed in.

Jason and Amy are a couple of young aspiring entrepreneurs offering good quality and affordable B&B accommodation near to the centre of York. The bedrooms are a good size and the bars and restaurants are only an 8 minute walk away; I should know as I live on the same street!

As well as private parking, they do a mean 'full english', two key elements when you're visiting the city of York.

Carraw B&B is situated in the heart of Hadrian's Wall country and is simply superb. It's a recently converted barn, finished to a very high standard and hosts, Kevin and Leah provide the outstanding customer service. Unusually these days, this B&B has a comfortable lounge, as well as a pleasant dining room. The views from the front are great and there's adequate parking for all.

Queen Anne's is a perfectly good 3 star B&B, if you're looking for reasonably priced accommodation close to York city centre. It's situated just off Bootham on the north side of the city and only ten minutes walk to the railway station. It's popular with Americans and Brits alike and they promise a good breakfast and plenty of friendly advice.

Amber House is a lovely bed and breakfast, only a short walk from York's historic city centre. John and Linda only let out two rooms, so you can be sure of great customer service, as well as a lovely breakfast. It's a place you'll want to return to as the rooms are very individual and a really good size.

Here is another achingly attractive business, with five wonderful rooms, a wonderful garden and wonderful service. Hopefully you're getting the picture. It's also situated on the edge of Warkworth, a small town with its very own castle.

Mandy has a real passion for quality and simply great taste. She's invested heavily to achieve the finish and continues to make improvements month on month. I'd recommend this as a place to stay for a special occasion, but who needs a special occasion?

Pat bought this place as a bit of a wreck and with a great degree of dedication [and cash] has tranformed it into a chique, stylish bed and breakfast. The approach has allowed the traditional features to remain, but bold modern features to be incorporated. There is a homely lounge area and bar not often found in b&bs and the breakfast is superb. All this and you're on the doorstep of the North York Moors National Park and only 45 minutes from York or the Yorkshire coast.

This B&B is ideal for the more active among you. There's the obvious fantastic walking opportunities, including the Hadrian's Wall walk, but consider the cycling, nature and wildlife in the area. As well as Les's special breakfast's, the B&B is also a cafe through the day with a great wee dining area and outside seating area. A really friendly place to stay.

Ovingham is a lovely little village not too far from Hexham. Mary offers two rooms in a 17th century stone cottage; both are a good size and very comfortable, complimented by a lovely garden to the rear of the property. This is one of the friendliest B&Bs you'll find, a true home from home and an experience you're unlikely to forget. There's even a nice pub in the village, less than 2 minutes walk.

Barry and Andrea, as young parents themselves, have set up the Hurstmere as a family holiday accommodation. This understanding of kids is demonstrated by their knowledge of how to keep kids entertained not just at the Guest House, but in and around Blackpool itself. Out of school holidays, couples are catered for with bar, pool table and importantly, private parking in a secure garage [very unusual for Blackpool].
